2015 annual meeting
The AFS 2015 Annual Meeting is scheduled to take place at a hotel that is the site of an active labor dispute: the Westin Long Beach. (Read more about the labor dispute here). AFS leadership noted in a March 14th statement that:
"MANY OF OUR MEMBERS FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT ISSUES OF WORKERS' RIGHTS."
On April 7th Tim Lloyd sent a letter to Unite Here Local 11 staff and the General Manager at the Westin Long Beach "to urge your union and your hotel to begin communicating about the labor issues that divide you."
THIS IS NOT ENOUGH.
WORKERS AT THE WESTIN LONG BEACH NEED AFS TO TAKE ACTION.
SO what can afs do?
move the event.
AFS MEETING PLANNERS SAY THAT THE GROUP WILL BE CHARGED $99,000 IF IT MOVES THE ANNUAL MEETING OUT OF THE WESTIN LONG BEACH.
ISN'T THAT UNFAIR?
No organization should be penalized for the Westin's labor problems, especially not a socially conscious group like AFS.
sO what, AS A MEMBER, CAN YOU DO?
Westin workers have shown immense courage by confronting their own bosses about issues in their workplace. Those very same bosses are attempting to charge AFS $99,000 for doing the right thing by moving the Annual Meeting.
BE COURAGEOUS LIKE THE WESTIN WORKERS.
CALL AFS MEETING PLANNERS AT 614-292-3375 AND TELL THEM THAT YOU WILL NOT ATTEND THE 2015 ANNUAL MEETING IF IT TAKES PLACE AT THE WESTIN LONG BEACH.
Westin workers would love to share their
stories with you.
