BOYCOTT THE APSA TEACHING AND LEARNING CONFERENCE
The site of the American Political Science Association (APSA) Teaching and Learning Conference 2017, the Westin Hotel in Long Beach, CA, is subject to a boycott called by its own workers since September 2015. Due to this dispute, workers and their supporters march outside the hotel in regular picket lines, chant pro-worker messages over bullhorns, and hand out flyers to pedestrians to ask the company to treat workers with respect and dignity.
Despite pickets, multiple websites, and news articles mentioning the labor dispute, APSA staff selected the Westin as the site of the Teaching and Learning Conference in spring 2016, after the start of the labor dispute and boycott.
Hotel workers clean your room, make your food, and ensure your conference experience is fun and thought-provoking. They are asking you to boycott their property. Fortunately, APSA leadership recently agreed to reimburse "any TLC presenter who has already booked their airplane ticket."* Will you honor the workers' call?
